Grager joined UMDA because his home planet of Tobud was taken over when its despot was strangled to death during the Eradication of Opposition. Once the Tobudian militia was disbanded, Grager was immediately commissioned as a colonel a UMDA force under Donald Harppstein. At the time of the Cosmic Battle, Grager had been promoted all the way to the rank of admiral.
