Robert Malone was unfortunate enough to witness first-hand the swift and destructive Darkness takeover of Earth. A member of the FBI, Malone is in his early thirties and placed with Dan Washington under the supervision of Mary Tashall just weeks before Earth was overrun.

One day he is living in an apartment outside Washington D.C. , the next he is living in rubble and witnessing the obliteration of what is left of the capital of the United States. Robert begins to fight back against Darkness’s new administrator, Ege Wandron, with his old partners Dan and Mary.

They are soon captured after Robert makes a daring attempt to snatch the five recovered energy crystals from the magician Miry’s hands. Robert and Dan are taken to the concentration camp Atiñexolf but then transferred to the concentration camp Zwengling because they were suspected of knowing where other energy crystals were. Robert, Mary, and Dan, along with all other prisoners of the concentration camp, were freed by Jude Forque and her group of Modiun UMDA soldiers. When given the option to go with Jason Messedu and the Universal UMDA,

All inhabitants of Earth were then forced into hard labor to build more Darkness military starships. Robert was placed into the hull manufacturing facility. After building a makeshift shelter for he, Dan, and Mary to live in, they were approached by Elijah Morgansten of the underground rebellion against Darkness. After agreeing to join the rebellion, Robert accompanies Mary and Dan to the Oaxaca Plateau in Mexico. From that point on, Robert worked to bring about the freedom of Earth by ridding his planet of the Dark One’s control.
